Things to Do in Bed Besides Sleeping
We all crave sleep. We supposedly get 24 years worth over the course of a lifetime, but on any given morning it sure doesn’t feel that way. So it’s no surprise that a recent study by Sharps in the UK found that sleep is the top activity for time spent in bed.
Sharps polled 2,000 people and asked them how they spent their time in bed. The answers included talking to a bedmate, watching TV, surfing the internet and reading. In a ranking of the top 10 activities in bed, sex ranked dead last. Heck, according to the survey we spend twice as much of our bed time doing work (77 minutes a week) as we do having sex (a measly 35 minutes a week).
Here’s how it breaks down. Look familiar?
| Rank | Activity | Minutes Per Week | Minutes/Hours Per Night |
| 1 | Sleep | 3,150 | 7.5 hours |
| 2 | Talking | 193 | 28 minutes |
| 3 | TV | 132 | 19 minutes |
| 4 | Internet | 122 | 17 minutes |
| 5 | Reading | 114 | 16 minutes |
| 6 | Listening to Music | 105 | 15 minutes |
| 7 | Talking on the Phone | 81 | 12 minutes |
| 8 | Work | 77 | 11 minutes |
| 9 | Video/Computer Games | 57 | 8 minutes |
| 10 | Sex | 35 | 5 minutes |
Five minutes per night for sex? Even if you save up those minutes and have a big blowout (so to speak) one night a week, that’s not much.
Here’s a proposition: less time watching TV and more time indulging in some of these suggested alternate activities:
- Whispering (like talking, but sexier)
- Playing Games (see here for some suggestions)
- Tickling
- Bondage
- Cuddling
- Making Out
- Whatever you come up with together
Beds were not meant just for sleeping...or watching TV...or working...you get the point.
Sweet dreams.
