Intimacy
Back to Childhood
Remember how fun it was to be a kid? Of course, it helped that you were innocent and naïve, unaware of most of life’s complications and disappointments. You were blissfully free to spend your time as you saw fit, whether riding your bike, exploring local woods or just hanging out with friends.
Some childhood activities are sadly out of your life forever. Heck, given the realities of today’s world, many are gone from children’s lives as well. Be grateful you grew up when you did. And consider reliving some of those childlike activities you haven’t done in years. This time around, you can do them with a very grownup twist.
| Activity | Then | Now |
| Playing with food | From messing around with strained peas to food fights, this one’s a classic. | Try making out while sharing strawberries. Then branch out into melon, pears…other fruits and on beyond kissing. |
| Reading out loud | Mom used to read to you every night to help you go to sleep. | You and your lover can read select passages from Anais Nin’s Delta of Venus or anything that turns you on. |
| Fingerpainting | Remember how much fun it was to slide the paint around on shiny paper? | Get out the can of Redi-Whip and the syrups and try painting on each other’s bodies. Or try something a little more targeted. |
| Rolling down hills | On a sled (or cafeteria tray) in the winter, inhaling the freshly mown grass in summer. | You can roll around together on hills and flat ground, preferably sand dunes – but in warm weather unless you’re a member of the Polar Bear Club. |
| Sleepovers | You got to stay up late talking about everyone and everything. The best kind of bonding. | Staying the night is still the best kind of bonding. |
| Getting a new toy | The TV commercials drove you mad with toylust. You just couldn’t be satisfied until you got the latest, coolest toy. | You get your toylust from plenty of sources these days, including those fabulous online catalogs. Why wait for Christmas to surprise your lover with a grownup present? |
| Shared baths | Typically with a sibling or parent, it was always fun to play games in the tub. | It’s even more fun now, especially in a spa tub where you have room to move and bubbles. Plan to make a night of it. |
| Playing doctor | “Stick out your tongue and say aah.” | “You’re going to need a full examination. This might take a while.” |
