Los Angeles, April 25, 2008 — Love: it's a mystery. No matter what our stage in life or love, we could all use a little help. How do you find the right one? What's the best dating service for you? How do you take your sex life to a new level? How do you keep love alive over the course of years? And, if necessary, how do you break up with dignity and a minimum of pain?

LoveHowTo.com launches today, with advice across the love spectrum. Whether you're looking for love, trying to make a relationship work or going through a breakup, there's good advice and plenty to smile about.

The core of the site is the exclusive LoveHowTo Dating Directory. This comprehensive database contains reviews and pricing information for more than 150 dating services in two dozen categories, to help users choose the right service for their needs. Dating services often keep their pricing hidden until you register, so the Directory offers valuable data even beyond its insights into a service's demographics and features.

LoveHowTo is aimed at the over-21 crowd with no-holds-barred information. The tone is light, sexy, positive and helpful, never dry or preachy. User contributions are welcomed, whether insights into love, advice, personal experiences or comments. Users are also able to vote on submissions; articles receiving the most votes rise to the top of each category.

Five Main Content Areas

The five main LoveHowTo content areas cover the myriad aspects of finding, keeping and losing love:

The Quest
Dating Services
Intimacy
Together
Moving On

Following is an excerpt from each.

The Quest

From "How to Fall in Love":
There's no right answer for every occasion. So here's some conflicting advice:

  • Start slow. Hold hands. Make small talk. Stop at first base until you know if there's something real.
  • Jump in. If it feels right, let go and see where it takes you. Follow your instincts, spill your guts, write poetry, act on your lust.

Dating Services

From "How Not to Write a Profile":
Obsessions: If your profile name includes the word feline, your photo shows you holding a cat and you mention your beloved kitties multiple times, you get points for honesty but will likely die alone.

Intimacy

From "How to Kiss Like a Dream":
Any kiss can be memorable as long as two good kissers are involved. Make sure you're one of them. Kissing is a skill, like snowboarding or playing an instrument. It can take lots of effort to master, but oh, those practice sessions!

Together

From "Making Love Last":
How do certain couples stay together for decades while others crash and burn after only a few intense weeks? The short answer is: maturity. It takes two grown-ups to recognize that love is not only the fluttery feeling you had at the beginning. It takes two grown-ups to work at continuing to like, much less love, each other through years of close quarters, foul moods (and occasionally odors), external forces, disagreements, betrayals, tragedies, aging...oh, and some good stuff too.

Moving On

From "Breaking Up: Hard to Do or a Breeze?":
The only time a breakup is easy is when you're the one initiating it, and neither of you were too committed anyway. After a couple of dates it's pretty painless to say, "You know, I like you a lot but I think we both know we're not destined to be together." Then you each breathe a sigh of relief as you split the bill and head to your respective mobile phones to spread the word: "I'm still available!"

Plus Special Features

In addition to these main subject areas, LoveHowTo offers personal insights from love experts: a blog from the site's founder; analysis of online dating profiles and messages from an expert in translating "datespeak"; and book reviews by an author and dating advice maven who runs a dating site.

Blog

From "The Story Behind LoveHowTo!":
I try not to feel like I've started LoveHowTo because those who can't do, teach. After all, I have built up some knowledge over my years of being single, married and now separated and heading for divorce. But there's also something to that whole "wisdom of crowds" idea. I certainly don't have all the answers, but together, as an online community, we just might.

The Blog is written by the site's co-founder, Laura Foti Cohen, a writer and editor with an emphasis on love and a current specialist in the "Moving On" area.

Dating Analyst

From "Caution: Egomaniac Ahead!":
The profile needs to be read as a cumulative pile up of references — all tuned to today's hip culture. The writer wants to (perhaps feels compelled to) cover every possible base so that you the reader will find nothing missing. He is knowledgeable about everything, good at everything, and comes across as solid and mature and self-knowing — He is in fact highly clever, good with words (probably took some time tweaking the piece) and finally all too perfect. A master of impression management.

Dating Analyst Tom Dichter reads between the lines of profiles and messages from online daters to determine what's really being said.

Book Reviews

Book reviews are by Jennifer Kelton, author of Don't Use My Sweater Like A Towel and creator of BadOnlineDates.com and DailyDatingAdvice.com.
